Stainless Steel Hardware
Stainless steel provides the most durable hardware we offer. It is best suited to withstanding the marine environment and will provide the maximum service life on shore also. Stainless steel also provides greater strength (although none of the hardware shown is designed for use in personal protective equipment) than plastic or zinc. While some of the items are type 316 stainless which provides maximum corrosion resistance, many are type 304 which will stain over time.
- Type 304: the most common grade; the classic 18/8 stainless steel. Outside of the US it is commonly known as "A2 stainless steel", in accordance with ISO 3506 (not to be confused with A2 tool steel).
- Type 316: the second most common grade (after 304); for food and surgical stainless steel uses; alloy addition of molybdenum prevents specific forms of corrosion. It is also known as marine grade stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to type 304. Type 316 is often used for building nuclear reprocessing plants. Also referred to as "A4" in accordance with ISO 3506.

In a salt environment stainless steel is the only logical choice but of other uses it still offers some really great features. Ratchet buckles that don't rust shut, greater strength than zinc castings and then there is the fact that it just looks good.
