Sail Ties
We offer sail ties manufactured from either polypropylene or polyester webbing. Polypropylene offers a wide choice of colors and economical pricing. They are great if you always use a sail cover. Polyester offers the best UV stability of any webbing so they will last much longer if left exposed. The trade off is price and a very limited color selection. Why don't we offer nylon sail ties? Nylon soaks up water which is not a good feature for a sail tie. Nylon webbing is also made as greige goods (undyed) and then solution dyed. This means nylon is not as colorfast as polypropylene where the actual material is pigmented prior to manufacturing the webbing.
The length of the sail tie is the webbing length. A 4' tie would stretch around a circle with about a 15" diameter. This does not allow any extra to tie should you be ordering one of the classic style ties. One can always shorten a sail tie but we have yet to come up with a webbing stretcher that would make them longer. As with all of our straps, sail ties are made to order and are not returnable.
Classic Polypropylene
Standard sail ties are manufactured using 1" polypropylene webbing which will not absorb water and has reasonable UV stability. We use a twisted loop to help the eye stay open which allows you to thread the other end through the loop without having to fight to open the loop.
Quick Release Polypropylene
Quick Release sail ties are manufactured using 1" polypropylene webbing which will not absorb water and has reasonable UV stability. They are fast to use and easy to adjust. Just clip the two halves of the side release buckle together, grab on to the loop and tab and pull to tighten. The sewn tab ensures that you will never lose the male end of the buckle.
Classic Polyester
Premium sail ties are manufactured using 1" polyester webbing which has excellent UV stability. We use a twisted loop to help the eye stay open which allows you to thread the other end through the loop without having to fight to open the loop.
